Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, popularly known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” more than a decade after he was linked to the killing of three NDLEA officers in Ogun State.
Jimoh was apprehended on Friday, January 16, 2026, in Owode, Ogun State, following intelligence-driven operations carried out by the agency’s tactical units. A search of his hideout led to the discovery of 69 kilograms of skunk, a variant of cannabis.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that Jimoh had been on the agency’s wanted list since June 15, 2014. He was accused of orchestrating a violent attack on NDLEA officers who attempted to arrest him at the time, an assault that resulted in the death of three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure.
Babafemi described the arrest as a major breakthrough, noting that Jimoh had built a reputation for drug trafficking, evading arrest, and deploying armed thugs against security personnel. Although he escaped during the 2014 incident, the agency remained committed to tracking him down.
The statement recalled that in August 2023, NDLEA operatives raided Jimoh’s residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, recovering 1,922 kilograms of skunk stored in 139 sacks. Jimoh fled during that operation, but the property, which functioned as a drug warehouse, was later confiscated by the Federal Government after court proceedings.
The agency also announced several other drug-related arrests across the country. In Edo State, operatives raided Arokpa Forest in Uzebba, Owan West Local Government Area, arresting 53-year-old Isihor Edika and seizing 320 kilograms of skunk and cannabis seeds. In Abuja, a 44-year-old woman, Yinka Agboola, was arrested in Kaura District for allegedly producing and selling cannabis products online. Items recovered from her home included 2.2 kilograms of skunk and quantities of cannabis oil. Another suspect, Tordue Pius Richard, was also arrested in the FCT with cocaine and cannabis.
In Lagos, NDLEA officers seized over 118 kilograms of skunk from two suspects in Mushin, while 116 kilograms were recovered from a warehouse in Enugu State. Along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway in Delta State, two young men were intercepted with large quantities of tramadol, codeine syrup, diazepam, swinol, and Molly.
Additional seizures were recorded in Oyo, Kwara, and Jigawa states, involving cannabis, synthetic drugs, and pharmaceutical opioids. In Jigawa, an ex-convict, Gaddafi Ammani, and an accomplice were arrested, with Ammani reportedly injuring an officer while attempting to flee.
Commending the nationwide operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), praised officers involved and described Jimoh’s arrest as a victory for justice. He said the development sends a strong warning to drug traffickers that evading the law is only temporary.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks nationwide and bringing long-wanted fugitives to justice.
