Why I Believe The Devil Controls Music Industry — 9ice

 

Nigerian music star, Abolore Akande, famously known as 9ice, has called on his industry colleagues to be watchful of the lyrics of their songs because the devil controls the music industry. 

The singer, who was a guest on ‘The Nancy Isime Show’, also spoke about the spiritual battles he has fought and his conversion to traditional worship. 

“With music we can be passing a message, that’s why when you sing as an artiste, watch what you say with words because the devil controls music. The devil is the choir master. That’s why we smoke and do all the things we do. We do all this. Generally, the devil controls music. If you are coming into this industry, understand where you’re coming to. I’m not lying to you,” he said. 

Speaking on the spiritual battles he has experienced, the ‘Gongo Aso’ singer said that sometime between 2009 and 2010, he vomited blood for about six months in his house to the point where he had to leave. 

On how he protects himself, 9ice said that he is neither a Christian nor a Muslim. 

“I’m a babalawo. When I tell people, they run away from me. I’m African. I’m a traditionalist. That’s what I practice. I find my own life in my own way. The first time I practised it was when I was vomiting blood, and someone just told me to go to Ifa so that I could be protected. I said, Okay, and I did. 

“I just wish that I had known Ifa at the beginning. When Fela was talking, Fela used to go to Ogun. We were like this guy, what is he doing? And now I know. God said, I will never come to you in a different language from your people. And my understanding is that this black community, this black continent, is for black people. 

“And we have our own messengers, we have our own perfect, go back to your house, ask your mum or your dad or your grandpa, they will tell you what they do in your house. Na only one road enter Lekki Phase 1? If you can’t pass through this, you can pass through this way. Just get there with loyalty with sincerity,” he said.
